DIN

Deutsches Institut fuer Normung e. V. (engl. the German Institute for Standardization) develops standards and specifications as a service to industry, the state and society as a whole. As registered non-profit association, DIN has been based in Berlin since 1917. DIN’s primary task is to work closely with its stakeholders to develop consensus-based standards that meet market requirements. Around 32,000 experts from industry, research, the consumer sector and the public domain contribute their skills and experience to the standardization process. Nowadays, ninety percent of the standards work carried out by DIN is international in nature.

Generally, DIN activities include the preparation of standards and the management of standardization processes on national, European and International levels. In addition, DIN has been participating in several European research projects in which it has been responsible for the coordination of the standardization activities. This includes the active support of the development of several CEN Workshops Agreements (CWA) and a broad experience with regard to the relevant CWA development processes. Furthermore, DIN has been involved in several European research and innovation projects with a focus on security and resilience (e.g. DRIVER, HECTOS; SMR, SAYSO, ResiStand). This participation ensures a profound support within the project with regard to the demands of a better integration and interconnection of standardization and innovations in the security sector.

Mario Beier (male) is Head of the Group R&D Phase Standardization and employed at DIN since 2007. During his career he has been responsible for the project management of various projects, mainly related to innovation and standardization. Since 2009 he is responsible for the Electromobility Office in DIN where he coordinates standardization activities in the electric vehicles sector in Germany and throughout the world. Furthermore, from 2014 till 2018 he has been responsible for the Strategic Projects Unit coordinating internal large-scale projects such as lean management, what included the analysis of standardization processes.

René Lindner (male) is senior project manager at DIN, has about 7 years of experience with research and innovation projects and is mainly involved in innovative topics such as security and smart city (e.g. SmarterTogether, ESPRESSO, DRIVER+, SAYSO, ResiStand and Smart Mature Resilience – SMR). He holds a diploma in industrial engineering and has throughout his career a specific focus on innovation and project management. He has been part within the project SMR Smart Mature Resilience and supported intensively the development of the CWA 17300 series on ‘City Resilience Development’.
